This means observing thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations as they arise, allowing for greater understanding and acceptance of what one is experiencing.
In short, mindfulness is a powerful tool that can be used to improve the quality of life, increase emotional well-being and promote greater connection with the present moment.

Annamalai Swami (1906 - 1995), was a master of Advaita Vedanta, a direct disciple of Sri Ramana Maharshi.
In 1938, after ten years of work and devotion, Sri Ramana asked Annamalai Swami to leave the Ashram and devote himself exclusively to the solitary meditation of Atma Vichara. He then moved to a house nearby where he practiced self-enquiry for decades and finally, through devoted service to Bhagavan and rigorous practice of sādhana, attained Self-Realization. His simple teachings became valuable advice to seekers, for his direct experience gave him practical knowledge on how to achieve success in Self-Realization through self-enquiry. Ātmā Vicāra (विचार), is a Sanskrit term meaning the process of investigating who we really are, the inquiry into the Nature of the Self. This technique is the best exemplification of Jñāna Yoga, the Yoga of Self-Knowledge. Self-inquiry meditation is the constant attention to the inner awareness of “I” or “I am”, recommended by Ramana Maharshi as the most efficient and direct way to discover the unreality of the “I” thought.

“To overcome the false idea of the mind, simply stop believing in it. If this does not happen spontaneously when you hear the truth from a teacher, keep saying to yourself: ‘I am not the mind; I am not the mind. There is no mind; there is no mind. Only Consciousness exists.’ There is only Consciousness. That is to say, all that exists is Consciousness alone.
Keep this in mind and do not allow yourself to consider anything else as being real.”

“You must keep the inquiry:
‘For whom is this happening?’ - all the time.
If you are in trouble, remind yourself:
‘This is happening only on the surface of my mind. I am not this mind or the wandering thoughts.’
Then return to the question: ‘Who am I?’.
As you do this, you will penetrate deeper and deeper and become detached from the mind.
This will happen only after you make an intense effort.
What does it matter if many thoughts keep arising?
Investigate their origin or find out who has the thoughts.
If you do not forget your Real Self, that will be enough.
When you have dropped all thoughts, all identifications, the true knowledge suddenly dawns on you:
‘I am the unmanifest Self and I am also the whole of manifestation.’”
